The most significant part of my story is that I’m a mother, and my 3 amazing boys have been my greatest teachers. It all started in 2011 when I first became pregnant, and I felt deeply responsible for loving, shaping, protecting, and growing a healthy & kind human being. In looking back, what surprises me is that while there were tons of resources on how to care for the baby (I'm a research junkie!), there was almost nothing on how to support your own well-being as a new mother. Spoiler Alert: Having a baby requires us to re-learn ourselves and hold space for our own growth. Motherhood isn't a sprint, it's a marathon. We've got to take care of ourselves to avoid burnout and continue to be the mom we dreamed to be.
My pregnancy and postpartum experiences didn't come without bumps the first two times, mostly because I didn't know any better. I could change a diaper with my eyes closed, but I didn't anticipate the emotional and physical transformation that would take place over the first year and how different each experience would be!
So, when I became pregnant with my third and last baby, I decided to make a lot of changes on how I experienced and viewed pregnancy and postpartum. I invested in myself and my family. To tell you the truth, I couldn't find the resources that I wanted, so I intuitively created my own based on the lessons I learned in the past.
I was a little worried that things would be really hard with 3 kids under age 6. I wondered if I was being overly optimistic and if I should brace myself for a rude awakening.
You know what happened? Those first 8 weeks postpartum were a dream.
I knew I wanted every new mother to experience it the way I did without having to be a third time mom and without having to spend hours of research the way I did.
